P Wilkinson Containers & William Say scoops ‘Best in Metal’ award from the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association
P Wilkinson Containers and William Say is delighted to announce it has won the MPMA’s coveted Best in Metal Award for a set of limited-edition sample paint tins commissioned for a collaboration between iconic department store Liberty of London and British paint manufacturer Farrow & Ball.
The industry accolade follows the packs’ award win at the UK Packaging Awards in the Metal Pack of the Year – Promotional, Decorative & General Line category.
Each of the six sample pots feature one of Liberty’s iconic heritage interior prints and the range was available to buy from farrow-ball.com, Farrow & Ball showrooms, selected stockists and Liberty of London.
Liberty of London and Farrow & Ball limited edition sample pots
British paint specialists Farrow & Ball has been a client of P Wilkinson Containers and William Say for over 25 years.
Stuart Wilkinson, Sales and Marketing Director, P Wilkinson Containers and William Say comments:
“We produced the first printed tins for retail and have produced every sample pot that has ever been made in the history of the company. In 2021, the same year the brand celebrated 75 years, they commissioned a range of limited-edition tin designs to celebrate the partnership with iconic London department store Liberty of London.”
The winning Farrow & Ball sample tins showcase a total of six interior fabric patterns, and those six patterns are randomised across the 15 paint colours available. The paint colour within each tin is identified on a label.
P Wilkinson Containers and William Say used state-of-the-art technology to create the intricate coloured designs on the tin with detailed precision and accurate colour matching. The tins were digitally printed using Fujifilm Acuity B1 by Tinmasters at its plant in Swansea.
The company’s London factory produced the unique set of metal miniature lever lid tins, 57mm in diameter, at its Bermondsey factory using solar energy.
Robert Fell, Chief Executive at MPMA, says:
“This collaboration demonstrated the very pinnacle of printing innovation and truly showcased exquisite shelf appeal. Only digital printing would have made it possible for William Say to replicate the precise colours of the Liberty interior fabric prints. Traditional offset printing would not have been able to pin-point the exact colour match.”
The Best in Metal winner is selected by MPMA from shortlisted finalists in the MPMA sponsored metals category of the UK Packaging Awards. The Best in Metal trophy was presented by MPMA chairman, Aidan Ruddock, to Peter Wilkinson, Chairman; Garth Wilkinson, Managing Director; and Mark Bayne, Factory Manager, P Wilkinson Containers and William Say, at the MPMA’s annual dinner on 11 November.
Stuart adds:
“The response from the client and consumers has been extremely positive and to be recognised by the industry’s highlight accolade is the cherry on top. I’m very proud of the team at P Wilkinson Containers and William Say for their vision and exceptional skills.”
