The Royal Collection Trust commission P. Wilkinson Containers Ltd. to create a tin to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022 celebration tin is manufactured by William Say, the last independent canmaker in London

Royal Collection Trust, a department of the Royal Household, is offering a wide selection of official commemorative items in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. When the Royal Household released the official Platinum Jubilee emblem, Royal Collection Trust was able to use the official logo on the design of the tin. The emblem, designed by 19-year-old graphic design student Edward Roberts, from Nottinghamshire, was selected as the winning entry of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Emblem Competition, run by Buckingham Palace in conjunction with the V&A Museum.

2,022 units to commemorate the PJ year were commissioned as a limited run for the Platinum Jubilee slip lid tin, and the short run makes it well suited to use digital printing technology.

In order to make the most of the precision and colour depth of digital printing, the design was simplified and background removed, so the printing stands out against the natural metal silver tin. The slip lid also has the print cut away at the top which looks very effective.

As with many of our clients, the Royal Collection Trust chose to include a debossed environmental message on base of the tin, to show the packaging was made in London, using solar power by William Say. It’s particularly special for us to have this included on the tin as ours is the only celebration tin this year which features the official logo in the UK.
